In their first collaboration the Doğuş Children’s Orchestra and the Swiss Trio Nota Bene will give a rare performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, which combines collective precision and individual brilliance. The percussionist Burhan Öçal and his Istanbul Oriental Ensemble conjure up the manifold sounds of Istanbul’s grand bazaar Kapalı Çarşı. DJ İpek İpekçioğlu mixes an eclectic blend of musical traditions and modern influences. Doğuş Çocuk Senfoni Orkestrası ile İsviçreli Nota BeneTrio’su ilk kez gerçekleştirecekleri ortak çalışmalarında Beethoven’in üçlü konçertosunu seslendirecekler. Perküsyon ustası Burhan Öçal bizi, Istanbul Oriental Ensemble’le birlikte İstanbul Kapalı çarşısı’nın tını dünyasının renkli yelpazeleri arasında bir yolculuğa çıkartacakdır. Berlinli DJ İpek İpekçioğlu müzikal geleneklerle İstanbul metropolünün modern akımlarını harmanlamaktadır.

Fazıl Say & Zurich Chamber Orchestra (Music)

Fazıl Say and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, directed by conductor Muhai Tang, join forces to present a concert ‘alla Turca’. Fazıl Say entwines different styles and cultures in his compositions.

The ‘Sufi & Bach’ concert is a unique encounter between Orient and Occident on a musical level. Sufi chants meet whirling dervishes meet Bach cantatas, underlined by texts from Christian and Sufi mysticism.

With her family hailing from Istanbul, but born and raised in Munich, Aylin Aykan places emphasis on creating musical connections that transgress cultural and temporal borders. Her search leads us through Turkey’s diverse landscape of composers, presenting and narrating works by Cemal Reşit Rey and others.

The Ensemble Phoenix Basel, specifically advocates contemporary music. In the Gare du Nord they will play with Didem Dermen ‘On the Back Streets of Old Istanbul’ by Hasan Uçarsu. With Neva Özgen they will premiere Evrim Demirel’s commissioned piece ‘Darb-i dugah’ for Kemençe, Kanun and Ensemble.

Culturescapes has arranged a competition for composers under the age of 35 in Turkey and Switzerland. The prize-winning pieces will be performed by the students of the concert classes of the Musical Academy.

The Swiss duo Stimmhorn is known as border-crossers within the Helvetian topography of sound. Christian Zehnder is the voice, Balthasar Streiff the alphorn. Voice and alphorn now meet turntable and Ney flute: Mercan Dede is a traveller. As a musician, producer and DJ he commutes between his adopted home Montreal and his roots in the Bosporus, between modern electronic sound vaults and mystical Sufi spirituality.
